The Calorie Burn Calculator

burning

The calorie burn calculator uses the concept of METs (Metabolic Equivalent of Task) for particular activities. A Metabolic Equivalent measures the energy cost of physical activities. 1 MET for you is the energy you consume at rest.

While an accurate measurement of how much oxygen you use is done during a fitness test, a MET is a useful way to see the relative calorie burning for different activities. Calories burned by exercise = ((MET * 3.5 * weight in kg) / 200) * duration in minutes

Tip

Our Metabolic Rate is the speed of the chemical reactions converting our food intake into useful components. Bill can have exactly the same calorie intake and activity level as Ben, but Bill puts on weight while Ben loses it. The difference is the rate of conversion.
